Road Safety & Road Traffic Offences
Issued 01 December 2023
Dec - Mar
A large amount of work has been done to tackle issues surrounding road safety and the respective
traffic offences. Speeding remains a concern among our communities. We have carried out checks and
enforcement in many areas and this has led to positive action to deter further offending. It is
worth noting that on some of our check periods, hundreds of vehicles’ speed have been measured and
none were found to have been over the limit.
Multiple recoveries of vehicles have been seized for various offences, including no insurance, tax
and moving traffic offences. Furthermore, multiple summons to court have been submitted for
offences.
In December, the Force’s Roads Policing Unit carried out two days of action in the Daventry area.
This resulted in 60 vehicle stops, 19 tickets issued and 9 vehicle seizures. A further stolen
vehicle was also recovered. Given the geographical area of Daventry, neighbourhood officers are
often called upon to attend road traffic collisions, broken down vehicles and other
incidents on the roads in the area.
We continue to utilise legislation to tackle anti-social driving, including use of
un-licensed e-scooters. S59 warnings are
increasingly being employed to tackle these issues and a number of vehicles have been seized.
Drug Dealing
Issued 01 December 2023
Dec - Mar
We continually receive information from you, the public, regarding drug activity and dealing in our
communities. This is vital in order to build a picture of what is happening. If we do
not know about it, we cannot tackle it. Officers in the Neighbourhood Policing Team have
stop & searched a number of individuals using legislation. Drugs have been seized and relevant
disposals have been issued.
Intervention work has also been carried out with youths who have either been found
with illicit substances or at risk of becoming users. This early intervention aims to prevent
further usage and any future criminality which is often the result. A number of Misuse of Drugs Act
Warrants have been sworn out with Magistrates and executed across Daventry and the wider area,
including in Long Buckby, the Southbrook estate and within central Daventry itself. These have
resulted in a number of arrests, disposals and ongoing investigations into serious offences such as
possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
