PCDA is quite a long recruitment process, however once you're in, it's great. I think degree apprenticeships in general are a really good opportunity, you're learning loads of stuff, learning legislation, learning the more academic side with the university and then you go on out and become a police officer. It's not easy by any means but it's a great opportunity and it's something I'm glad I'm going through the process of. The opportunity to get paid while doing a degree and also doing a job that I really enjoy is something, it's a no-brainer.
University alone wasn't for me and it isn't for everyone so the opportunity to balance the two really works for me. You've got to balance a full-time job as well as doing a degree. First year you spend most of your time in a classroom; second year you go on to working a full time job, you're out training, you get time to go back to university a few times; third year you've got things like your dissertation, professional discussions and a lot more assessments.
A lot of people ask me where I see myself going, colleagues, sergeants, and even family. There's so many different roles within the police, and the honest answer is I don't know but what I do know is Northamptonshire Police as a force offer so many different opportunities. I feel very confident that no matter where I want to go I'll be able to get there due to the support I've got around me.
