So, the PCDA is the police constable degree apprenticeship which I’m currently on with Northamptonshire Police. For me, I chose this route because I was freshly out of A Levels, so I was still in the swing of things with assessments and stuff like that, so I thought that this would be a great route for me to join, as well as getting practical experience in the world of policing.
I think it’s a great entry route for people as you get to do on the job experience as well as off the job learning in a classroom-based environment. I’ve had a lot of opportunities and I’ve been able to get attachments with different departments within the police, and it’s been a really eye opening experience because I’ve been able to get a taste of what life is like in different departments and different roles in policing.
At the moment, I’m sort of just going with the flow, seeing where life takes me within the police force because there are so many opportunities, so many different roles and departments within the police force that I didn’t know about before joining.
I would 100% recommend this entry route, I’m enjoying it a lot so far and I know I will do once I finish my three years. At the end of the three years, you’ll get a degree as well as being fully competent, a fully competent officer in the police force.
