Meet Tayo Balogun, one of our Recruiting and Talent Acquisition Officers, who has been with Northamptonshire Police for more than five years.
“My role typically involves managing the end-to-end recruitment process, identify and attracting the right candidates.
“A typical day for me involves liaising with the team and other stakeholders to review any concerns and issues which could impact the recruitment process. Going out into the communities, visiting schools, colleges and universities to promote the organisation and vacancies that we may have.
“I have a degree in accounting and finance and while waiting to save up to complete my professional exams (ACCA) I decided to complete a master’s programme and decided on human resources. I decided to pursue a career in this field to see if I would enjoy it or go back to accounting, however I have been enjoying my career in HR so far. So, it’s all been good since!
“One of the nice things about my role is seeing an officer in their uniform and knowing that I have supported them through the recruitment period and knowing that I was part of the team which made that happen.
“One of my main achievements in this role has been the work undertaken in the process of securing Oleeo – our current online recruitment system – which made a big impact on me. I had to liaise and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. It was a challenging period as we had staffing issues and were in the middle of Uplift – the police officer increase set by the Home Office and dealing with the Covid pandemic. So, seeing the outcome and the impact on the team and the organisation even after two years still amazes me.
“Sometimes the workload can be tough and having to manage people’s expectations, so I try to set realistic timeframes for any task completion. Also, breaking into different communities to promote the organisation and make us more diverse can be a challenge.
“Doing this role has made me realise the importance of recruiting the right candidates as this will have an impact on the services provided to the community.”
June Withey, Tayo’s supervisor, said: “Tayo has been and continues to be an invaluable asset in HR. Her ability to adapt to any situation makes her stand out to me as a great team member. She was a major part of the Uplift programme and her work around attraction helped us gain success in meeting the Home Office targets. She continues to work closely with hiring managers to look at how to get the best out of the recruitment system, and what avenues are available for advertising. She has been instrumental in the implementation of the Oleeo recruitment system for both the Force and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service and is our go to person for configuration changes.
“She has most recently assisted with the PCSO recruitment campaign, which has been a great success and it is to be commended just how much community work Tayo has been involved in. She visits colleges and schools and takes part in so many events. I am truly lucky to have her on my team!”
