The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) is to be a voice of the people and hold the Chief Constable and police to account. This publicly elected role aims to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service within their local area, ensuring that the police are answerable to the communities that they serve.

The PFCC is required to produce a four-year Police and Crime Plan which sets the strategic direction for policing in Northamptonshire. This must include the PFCC's objectives, the level of financial support and other resources they will provide to the police, and how the Chief Constable's performance will be measured, amongst other things.
