Northamptonshire Police is pleased to welcome Assistant Chief Constable Jonny Starbuck to the Force.
Jonny joined Northamptonshire Police in June 2026, following a distinguished 29-year career with Leicestershire Police, where he began his service in 1997 as a Police Constable.
He brings a breadth of experience to our county, having spent half of his career in detective roles and half in uniformed policing.
As a Police Constable, Jonny spent several years in response policing, before qualifying as an authorised firearms officer and joining the Armed Policing Team. He later progressed through investigative roles as a Detective Constable, Detective Sergeant and Detective Inspector, across both mainstream and specialist areas, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Child Abuse Investigation Unit. Jonny took on a Local Policing Inspector role in 2012, heading up the Neighbourhood Policing and Response teams in Hinckley where his career had begun.
In 2014, he returned to detective roles as a Chief Inspector, leading the Adult Safeguarding Department, Domestic Abuse and Serious Sexual Offences teams, and also spent a period of time working within the Force’s Intelligence Bureau.
He was later promoted to Superintendent, working in Corporate Services, Local Policing and CID, before progressing to Chief Superintendent and taking on the roles of Head of Local Policing and Head of Crime.
Jonny has completed all levels of professional investigation accreditation as PIP2, PIP3 and PIP4. He is also a trained Strategic Firearms Commander.
Jonny is particularly proud of his time working as the strategic lead for Mental Health. Whilst undertaking this role, he developed a multiagency protocol focused on reviewing the collective response to people in mental health crisis, and changing joint working practices to better align the most appropriate professionals to those needing help.
In his current role at Northamptonshire Police, Jonny is responsible for Local Policing, including Response and Neighbourhoods, as well as Operations, the Force Control Room, Custody, and Prevention and Intervention.
Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet said: “I am delighted to welcome Jonny to Northamptonshire Police. He brings with him a wealth of operational and investigative experience, alongside a strong commitment to partnership working and safeguarding some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. I am confident that his leadership will further strengthen our local policing and support our continued focus on protecting and serving the people of Northamptonshire.”
Outside of work, Jonny is married to Natalee and together they enjoy travelling and finding new places to visit.
