A variety of driving offences were detected by Northamptonshire Police in two neighbouring towns following the latest partnership days of action held in the north of the county.
On Wednesday, May 20, officers from the Safer Roads Team were joined by colleagues from the DVSA in Kettering as part of the ongoing activities to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.
Immediate prohibition notices prevent a driver from continuing their journeys until they have rectified the vehicle defect. Issues identified included an overweight vehicle, defective tyres and a non-working indicator.
Other offences included not wearing seat belts or having no valid insurance, while one referral was submitted to North Northamptonshire Council’s taxi licensing team after the vehicle had out of date plates and defective tyres.
The following day (Thursday, May 21) the team moved to neighbouring Corby, where they stopped and checked more commercial light goods vehicles.
During these checks, three drivers had their vehicles seized due to not having valid insurance, while another driver was given words of advice in relation to a number plate offence and a further person was reported for not wearing a seat belt.
In addition to this, two drivers were arrested – one on suspicion of immigration offences and the second on suspicion of drug driving, who was also reported for not have a valid driving licence or insurance. A third driver was reported to the DVLA for the misuse of trade plates and having no insurance or road tax.
One driver was issued with an immediate prohibition notice which prevented the driver from continuing their journey for having an overweight vehicle and failing to comply with driver’s hour regulations by not fitting a tachograph.
PC Mo Allsopp-Clarke of Northamptonshire Police’s Safer Roads Team said: “Everyone needs to play their part to ensure everyone using our roads get home safely and one of the most basic, but essential, ways to do this is to make sure you and your vehicle are fit for the road.
“These issues may seem trivial however, it only takes one poorly maintained vehicle or a lapse of concentration for a driver to be involved in a collision, resulting in potentially devastating consequences.
“Our priority remains to reduce the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on our roads, and with the support of our partners, days of action likes this enables us to work towards this by improving driving standards and removing unsafe vehicles immediately.”
Tragically in 2025, 26 people never returned home safely to their loved ones following a collision in Northamptonshire and 331 required urgent medical assistance for serious or life-changing injuries.
