Police are warning people across Northamptonshire to take extreme care as the UK braces itself for severe weather conditions over the next several hours.
The Met Office has taken the unusual step of issuing amber weather warnings for almost all of the UK as the country deals with the onset of Storm Isha which is expected to hit all parts of the country well into Monday morning.
While there have been relatively few incidents in the county so far today (Sunday, January 21), winds of up to 80 mph are expected in many areas of the country, bringing with it potential power cuts, delays to rail transport and extremely challenging driving conditions.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “From 6pm tonight until tomorrow morning, the county will face some very adverse weather conditions. We would urge people to travel only where absolutely necessary as the high winds and rain will present real problems, including flying debris. Please take extra care if you are out and about this evening and monitor weather reports where possible.”
