A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison after he admitted to attacking a family member.
Dean Barry Paul Petts, previously of Grasmere Road, Kettering, attacked the woman inside an address in Barnes Close in the early hours of February 25 this year.
During the attack, he placed his hands around her neck, restricting her breathing. As a result, the woman suffered a chipped jawbone.
Petts was arrested and subsequently charged with intentional strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
After being found guilty of the offences at Northampton Crown Court at an earlier hearing, Petts returned to the same court earlier this year (April 20), where he was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.
Lead investigator – PC Diaz Ryan, said: “Petts’ actions were extremely violent and left the victim with both physical injuries and lasting distress.
“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we will always pursue those responsible and bring them before the courts.
“I hope this sentence provides some reassurance to the victim and demonstrates that offences like this are taken very seriously.”
