A 28-year-old man who made threats while brandishing two large kitchen knives before being disarmed by an off-duty police officer has been jailed for 24 months.
At about 6.45pm on April 1 this year, Mohammed Alamin visited The Sevens public house in Weedon Road, Northampton, with another man and was asked to remove his hood as per company policy.
He reluctantly did this, but after being served he put his hood back up and both men walked off without paying for their drinks.
When a member of staff challenged them and attempted to take their drinks away, Alamin became agitated and verbally aggressive, threatening to stab him before offering him outside for a fight.
The pair were ushered out of the premises and Alamin ran off down Weedon Road however, shortly afterwards he entered the pub via a different door before returning to the main bar.
With a large knife in each hand, Alamin again threatened the same member of staff. An off-duty police officer stepped in and persuaded him to drop the knives before detaining him until Response officers arrived and arrested him.
Alamin was subsequently charged with threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.
After appearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on April 3, his case was transferred to the county’s crown court, where on May 16, he pleaded guilty to making threats but denied the possession charge which the court accepted.
Alamin, of Spencer Street, Northampton, returned to Northampton Crown Court on August 1, where he was sentenced to 24 months for threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place.
The charge of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place was ordered to remain on his file.
Response officer PC Olivia Mawby of the West LPA, who led the investigation, said: “Tackling knife crime remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we will continue to work hard to take make our communities safe places to live and work.
“Anyone who decides cause distress or fear to others like this should expect to be dealt with robustly, and I am pleased that this stance has been reflected in the custodial sentence that Mohammed Alamin received.”
