Three years in prison for Northampton drug dealer

A 50-year-old woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to supplying Class A drugs in Northampton.

Shortly before 2.40pm on Monday, July 1 this year, Michelle Gedney was seen by officers from Northamptonshire Police’s Operation Revive West team taking part in a suspected drug deal in Tower Street.

Gedney, of no fixed address, was detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and taken to Campbell Square Police Station where 55 individual wraps of suspected crack cocaine were found on her person.

During the search, a black Nokia mobile phone was also seized along with £161.13 in cash, and Gedney was subsequently charged with one count of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs – namely crack cocaine.

At Northampton Magistrates’ Court on July 2, Gedney was remanded in custody until her next court hearing at the county’s crown court on August 13, where she pleaded guilty to the drug supply charge.

On September 24, she returned to the same court where she was sentenced to a total of three years in prison and ordered to pay a £228 surcharge, while a forfeited and destruction order was made to destroy the Class A drugs.

The presiding judge also made a forfeiture application under Section 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, for the seized money to be redirected to the Northamptonshire Community Fund, which provides financial support to charities.

PC Rory Callan of the Operation Revive West team said: “Drug harm remains a matter of priority for the Force, and I hope the sentence handed to Michelle Gedney is a deterrent to anyone who is thinking of dealing drugs within our communities.

“I also hope this sentence reassures members of the public that we will take positive action against issues affecting them and it encourages anyone who has concerns about drug dealing within their local communities to keep reporting suspicious activity to us.”

Operation Revive is the Force’s hard-hitting enforcement campaign which focuses on bringing the offenders of serious violence associated with Class A drug dealing and gangs to justice.

If anyone has concerns about drug dealing or any other illegal activities, please report it to us on 101, online at www.northants.police.uk/ro or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
