A 40-year-old man who stole the money from a pool table in Northampton has been jailed.
On the night of July 6 this year, Wayne Townsend, previously of Northampton, made his way into a warehouse in St James Mill Road and once inside, used a screwdriver to break into the cash store of a pool table and steal the money inside.
He also stole a bag before making off.
A Northamptonshire Police investigation identified Townsend as the suspect and he was arrested a short time later and subsequently charged with one count of burglary.
After pleading guilty to the offence at Northampton Crown Court in August, he returned to the same court last month (September 26) where he was sentenced to one year and seven months in prison.
Lead investigator - PC Jenson Osborne said: “Wayne Townsend is a prolific burglar and so to secure a result which involves him going to prison is great news for Northampton.
“I hope this case sends a message to other people who think that making money in this way will be tolerated in this county.
“It won’t and just like Wayne Townsend, you face being jailed as a result.”
