A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 31 months in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs in Wellingborough.
Daniel Walter Rossiter was arrested on January 28 this year, after he was seen by officers from Northamptonshire Police’s Operation Revive North team taking part in a suspected drug deal in Kilnway, Wellingborough.
Rossiter attempted to flee from the officers however, as they swiftly detained him, he threw a cling filmed object only for it to land at his feet. The bundle was found to contain individual wraps of suspected Class A drugs and he was arrested.
During a search, Rossiter was also found to have two kitchen knives in his waistband and was further arrested for possession of a bladed article in a public place. A black Nokia mobile phone and £260 in cash were also seized.
Rossiter was subsequently charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a controlled Class A drug – namely crack cocaine and heroin – and two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
At Northampton Magistrates’ Court on January 29, Rossiter was remanded in custody until his next court hearing at the county’s crown court on March 11, where he pleaded guilty to all four charges.
On April 22, he returned to the same court where he was sentenced to a total of 31 months – 26 months for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and a further five months to run consecutively for the possession of the kitchen knives.
He was also ordered to pay £228 victim surcharge while a forfeited order was made to destroy the mobile phone, which had been used to facilitate his drug dealing activities, and the Class A drugs.
PC Sam Walton of the Operation Revive North team said: “Drug harm continues to be a matter of priority for the Force, and we will endeavour to disrupt drug dealers, who prey on the most vulnerable people in our society and bring misery to our streets and communities.
“I am pleased with the sentence handed to Daniel Rossiter by the courts and hope it also serves as a deterrent to anyone who is thinking of dealing drugs in Northamptonshire. We will stop your illicit activities and bring you to justice.”
