Brothers who ran Northampton drugs line jailed

Two brothers who ran a Class A drugs line between Northampton and London have been jailed for a total of almost 13 years.
Afian Chowdhury, aged 29, and Iman Chowdhury, aged 26, appeared at Northampton Crown Court last month after a joint investigation between Northamptonshire Police and the Metropolitan Police uncovered their illegal activities.
The pair ran the so-called Tony Line, using a mobile phone to coordinate the sale of the Class A drugs heroin and crack cocaine and the Class B drug cannabis between their home in London and Northampton.
When police conducted a warrant at their address in Abingdon Close, Camden, they found cannabis, a small amount of cocaine, £730 cash and a knuckleduster, as well as telephone evidence showing their dealing activities.
The pair went on to be charged with multiple drug supply offences between January 2022 and March 2023, with Afian also charged for possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
At Northampton Crown Court on April 15, Afian Chowdhury was sentenced to a total of seven years and 10 months’ imprisonment after admitting six offences.
These included attempted grievous bodily harm in Peterborough on August 21, 2020, and a dangerous driving charge on the same date, for which he received consecutive sentences of two years and six months and 18 months respectively.
He was also disqualified from driving for a total of six years and 11 months and until he has passed an extended re-test. Two further counts against him were ordered to lie on file.
The same hearing saw Iman Chowdhury sentenced to a total of five years’ imprisonment for four admitted drugs-related charges and one of acquiring/using/possessing criminal property, in relation to the cash seized.
Further court proceedings against the pair under the Proceeds of Crime Act are due to take place on August 16, 2024.
Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Scott Allan of the Serious and Organised Crime Team, said: “Afian and Iman Chowdhury were involved in the supply of significant quantities of Class A drugs in Northampton, exploiting the addictions of others for their own gain.
“Tackling drug harm and serious and organised crime are priorities for Northamptonshire Police and I’m glad to see robust sentencing of these two men following our successful investigation.”
