A 35-year-old man has been sent to prison after a surprise visit from Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO Team.
The MOSOVO Team closely manage sexual and violent offenders and one of their responsibilities is to ensure that anyone who has been issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) is abiding by the conditions set.
This takes many forms but one of the ways the team ensure compliance is to make unannounced visits at offender’s homes to ensure that they do not have time to prepare for their arrival.
So, on April 3 this year, when the team arrived at the home of Aaron Bell, previously of Rockingham Road, Kettering, he was arrested due to lying about being friends with a number of celebrities and failing to hand over a mobile phone. It was also later discovered that he had a hidden unregistered mobile phone in his possession.
Bell was subsequently charged with three counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court last month (May 24), he was sentenced on the same day to one year and four months in prison.
Lead investigator - PC Mark Edkins from the MOSOVO Team, said: “As part of Bell’s SHPO, he was required to notify us of everyone he planned to associate with and provide us with their details, to allow suitable safeguarding checks to take place.
“However, after claiming to be friends with a number of celebrities, he was continuously evasive in handing over any details, and repeatedly lied to officers.
“I’m pleased that he has received this sentence and we will continue working hard to put more people like him behind bars.”
