A 40-year-old man who assaulted his ex-partner has been jailed for nearly two years.
Raymond Ian Christopher Hurren, previously of Kettering, launched the violent attack on April 19, 2024.
At 8.15am that morning, Hurren arrived at the woman’s home to collect his belongings, and seemingly unable to accept the end of their relationship which had occurred a week prior, he immediately began to carry out a sustained and violent attack - punching her repeatedly, grabbing her hair and throwing her around the room.
At one point, he put his hands around the woman’s throat and strangled her, restricting her breathing, before she was thankfully able to escape.
Police were called and Hurren was arrested and subsequently charged with two count of assault by beating, one count of actual bodily harm, one count of non-fatal strangulation, and five counts of criminal damage.
During the assault, the woman feared for her life: “I really thought he was going to kill me, I was so scared. I was thinking in my head, just get it over with, as I couldn’t take any more physical abuse.”
After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court, he was sentenced last month (June 6) to one year and eight months in prison.
Lead investigators, PCs Callum Asher and Emily Davidson said: “First of all, we want to commend the woman in this case for her bravery. She truly feared for her life during this attack yet she still found the courage to support our investigation.
“Whilst nothing can erase the memories of that morning in April, we hope the conclusion of this case and Hurren’s prison sentence provide her with both closure and comfort.
“This investigation was a great team effort – from the response officers who first attended to the subsequent investigation. Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we will continue working hard to put more people like Hurren behind bars.”
