A 31-year-old drug dealer who was extradited from Amsterdam after being on the run for more than three years has been jailed.
Tyrone James Anderson, previously of Rushden, arrived back in Northamptonshire in June this year after skipping the country before a drugs trial in June 2021.
Anderson was charged with four counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin between May and June 2018 and October and December 2019, but removed his electronic tag and left the country before his trial could start.
An investigation was launched by Northamptonshire Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Team and work began to find out where he’d gone in a bid to get him back to the UK to face justice.
Throughout the investigation, detectives were able to establish that Anderson had been in Spain, France and Sweden before he was finally arrested in Amsterdam in April this year.
He appeared at Northampton Crown Court on July 11 where he pleaded guilty to all the charges and returned to the same court last week (August 23), where he was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.
Lead investigator – Detective Sergeant Drage said: “I am pleased to see this complex and protracted investigation conclude and Tyrone Anderson behind bars.
“I would personally like to thank Sergeant Boyce for her work in locating him. Her tenacity, drive and commitment is the reason he is back in the UK and brought to justice for his crimes.
“Northamptonshire Police is committed to tackling drug harm and ensuring the dealers are caught and I hope this case shows our determination to cross borders and work with international colleagues in order to do just that.”
