A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexual offences against an 11-year-old child.
Szymon Leszek Sieczkiewicz, previously of Northampton, was charged with two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of assaulting a child by touching, in relation to an incident that happened in January 2019.
Instead of admitting to his crimes from the beginning, Sieczkiewicz skipped the country.
But that didn’t stop DS Selena Leppard from Northamptonshire Police from pursuing him and a European Arrest Warrant was issued.
Eventually Sieczkiewicz was found in Germany and brought back to the UK to face the courts.
After a three-day trial in October 2021 he was found guilty of all charges and at Northampton Crown Court earlier this month (January 10) was handed six years in prison and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
DS Selena Leppard, said: “I am really pleased that my relentless pursual of Szymon Sieczkiewicz has resulted in this six-year sentence.
“Sieczkiewicz thought he could escape justice by leaving the country, but this case goes to show that Northamptonshire Police will not only go beyond our county borders to pursue offenders but also cross national borders too.
“The child in this case has been very brave from the beginning of our investigation and I would like to thank them and their family for their support throughout.
“I hope this result, after such a drawn-out case, will allow them some closure and the ability to move forward with their life.”
