Five people charged following protest at Wellingborough prison site

Five people have appeared in court following a protest at the site of a new prison being built in Wellingborough.
Elena Rose Mann, aged 20, Ross Monaghan, aged 37, Ella Russell, aged 21, and Arune Hopestone, aged 20, were all charged with aggravated trespass after being arrested at the site of HMP Five Wells on Tuesday, April 20.
Megan Elizabeth Yates, aged 27, was also arrested at the protest and has been charged with two counts of common assault, relating to coughing at site workers and stating she had Covid-19.
All five appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, April 22.
Yates, of no fixed address, Mann, of no fixed address, Monaghan, of Barnby Moor, Nottinghamshire, Russell, of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and Hopestone, of Oxfordshire, were all released on conditional bail and will next appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on June 16.
