A 22-year-old man who killed Glenn Davies last summer has been jailed today (Tuesday, March 17) at Northampton Crown Court.
Michael Taiwo, 22, of Lea Road in Northampton, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 25-year-old Glenn who he killed during a night out. Taiwo was sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison after he accepted killing Glenn.
Taiwo punched Northampton man Glenn at The Old Bank pub in St Giles Square, Northampton, on the night of August 24, 2019. Glenn fell to the floor shortly afterwards and was transferred to the University Hospital in Coventry where sadly he died the following day.
Detective Chief Inspector Joe Banfield is from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team and led the investigation into Glenn’s death. He said: "Glenn Davies was a young man with a long life ahead of him which was cruelly cut short by the senseless actions of Michael Taiwo, who accepted responsibility for killing Glenn with his guilty plea.
“This tragic incident shows how throwing a single punch can have terrible consequences and I hope the case serves as a stark warning to people everywhere - a moment of aggression can result in truly devastating consequences which reach far and wide. If you find yourself involved in a fight, walk away. It could save a life.
“Unsurprisingly, Glenn’s family have been left devastated by their loss. I’d like to pay tribute to their bravery and dignity throughout this investigation.”
