Two people have been sentenced to six weeks in prison after pleading guilty to stealing from a car in Cowper Street, Kettering.
Billy Appleyard, 22, of No Fixed Abode, and Heidi James, 20, of No Fixed Abode, broke into a silver Volkswagen Tiguan on Thursday, April 16, at 2.30am. They stole two hover boards from the car before making off on foot.
The owner of the car, a man in his 30s, saw Appleyard and James running away with his property and followed them. Appleyard made threats to stab the man but the man managed to detain him until police officers arrived to arrest the pair.
Appleyard was subsequently charged with stealing from the car as well as for an offence under the Public Order Act. James was charged with stealing from the car.
Both defendants were refused bail and appeared at court on Friday, April 17, where they pleaded guilty to the offences. Appleyard was handed six weeks for both offences. James was handed two weeks in prison as well as an extra four weeks as part of a previous suspended sentence.
Sergeant Matt Rock, said: “This pair tried to steal items from a hardworking member of society so I’m pleased to see them handed custodial sentences. I hope they use their time inside to reflect on their behaviour.”
