FOI 4862-25 Crimes against Charities
Request to Northamptonshire Police
I am writing to request information regarding crimes reported to Northamptonshire Police by charities and not-for-profit organisations. Specifically, I would like to request the following data:
Question 1. The number of crimes reported by charities and not-for-profit organisations, broken down by year, for the past five years (or the most recent available period).
Question 2. A breakdown of these crimes by type of offence (e.g., fraud, theft, arson etc.).
Response
Northamptonshire Police has conducted searches against its crime recording system and identified that ‘Charity’ is not an option when recording the location of an offence.
We then attempted to use your criteria to in an effort to manually locate the information using the search terms ‘charity’ and ‘not for profit’, however, the years 2020 and 2021 alone have returned 14 219 results.
Unfortunately, in order for our analysts to manually scrutinise this number of records to identify if the offence was against a charity / not for profit organisation, it would take in excess of 400 hours.
We must therefore conclude that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate cost limit of £450. Please accept this as a Refusal Notice under s12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
