FOI 15438-25 - Invalid MOT Fines

Request:

I would like to make an FOI request to find out the number of drivers that have received fines for driving without a valid MOT certificate.

I would like the data to include how much money the fine was for and whether the fine has been paid or if it was dismissed.

Please provide data for the last 12 months (July 2024 – August 2025).

For the period 01/07/2024–31/07/2025, offence code RT88096 – Use a motor vehicle on a road without a valid test certificate:

Of which:
Complied with and fine paid – 267
Not complied with, progressed for court summons – 40
Recently issued, still awaiting compliance – 29

The Fixed Penalty Notice, if accepted, carries a fine of £100.
Details of fines issued following the defendant being found guilty after a court case is held by His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS).
