FOI 17322-25 - Religious and Racial Hate Crime
Request:
Please provide data on the number of racial and religious hate incidents and crimes recorded by your police force between 1 March 2025 and 2 September 2025, including both violent and non-violent offences, as well as aggravated grievous bodily harm (GBH) where applicable.
For each offence type, please provide:
The raw number of offences recorded that were flagged as racial or religious offences and hate crimes.
The percentage this represents out of all recorded offences of that type during the same period.
A breakdown of the targeted groups, specifying the race or religion of the victims where recorded.
The number of offences recorded that were flagged as racial or religion incidents and hate crimes total in 2024 and the months leading up to March 2025
If available, please break down the data by offence category.
Response:
Percentage figures are not held. There is no requirement under the Freedom of Information Act to create these in order to respond to a request. To assist you in obtaining percentages, we have provided the total number of each crime type as well as the number of those crimes flagged as having racial or religious prejudice.
The total number of victims will not match the total number of hate crimes, as some occurrences have more than one victim recorded.

Northamptonshire Police also record non-crime hate incidents. In the period of 01/03/2025–02/09/2025, 28 such incidents were recorded, of which 23 included a race or religious marker. Although they are not crimes, I have included non-crime hate incidents as a category in the ethnicity and religion tables below.
Please be aware that neither self-defined ethnicity nor religion are mandatory fields. This means that they are often not recorded.
A victim’s stated ethnicity and religion may not be the same as the ethnicity or religion they were perceived to have by the individual or individuals committing the hate crime or incident.

There were 58 non-crime racial and religious hate incidents recorded in 2024, and 4 recorded in January and February 2025.
