FOI 9568-25 Incapacitant spray and Tasers
Request to Northamptonshire Police:
For the total number of deployments of incapacitant spray/Tasers from January 2022 to as recently as possible in 2025
- A breakdown of the circumstances of these deployments.
- A breakdown of the type of incapacitant spray/Taser that was deployed.
- Further clarification: when I refer to "deployment", this includes a Taser being drawn from its holster without being fired.
For the provision of the total number of authorisations for the deployment of attenuating energy projectiles/armed response units from January 2022 to as recently as possible in 2025
- A breakdown of the reasons for why the authorisation was given in each instance.

I have to advise you that Northamptonshire Police is not obliged to provide this information you have requested under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please take this letter as a Refusal Notice to this particular request.
Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires Northamptonshire Police, when refusing to provide such information (because the information is exempt within the provisions of the Act) is required to provide you, the applicant, with a Notice which:
- states the fact that an exemption has been applied
- specifies the exemption in question, and
- states why the exemption applies (if that would not otherwise be apparent)
The statutory exemption applicable to the information not disclosed is as follows:
Section 21 - Information reasonably accessible by other means
This is an Absolute Class Based Exemption and is therefore not subject to a harm or public interest test.
