Request:
1. Between September 2020 to the present day, what was the total number of
sextortion online cases reported broken down by month and year?
2. For each recorded incident please provide the following details:
victim gender, and crime outcome where possible.
3. please can you also confirm the number of prosecutions brought.
Police Response:
Northamptonshire Police systems are designed primarily for the management of individual cases and not for the production of statistical information for Freedom Of Information responses.
Searches conducted between September 2020 & May 2025 (Inclusive) for all occurrences whereby the Crime Type is Blackmail as per the HO group Description (HO Code: 35).
To incorporate the Sexual (Sextortion) aspect of the request MO Free Text searched for the keywords ‘SEX’, ‘NAKED’, ‘IMAGE’, ‘VIDEO’ or ‘PHOTO.
Please be aware that keyword searches are problematic and in no way provide accurate results or figures. As with any keyword search, the search will only return exact matches, and will not take into account any differences in terminology and/or spelling used. If the selected key words have not been mentioned, the data will not be returned. Vice versa, if the key words have been mentioned in an unrelated context irrelevant data will be collected.
