In 2002 the NRCI was the first initiative in the UK to be presented with the British Retail Consortium Safer Shopping Award.
In 2004 the NRCI Directors were given a certificate of appreciation as part of the Unsung Heroes Award from the Northamptonshire Police Authority.
In 2005 the Safer Business Award was received by the NRCI from Action Against Business Crime – a national Home Office funded anti-crime organisation.
In 2006 the Safecity Initiative was officially launched in Minneapolis, USA. PC Paul Valentine, who was the first NRCI police liaison officer, had travelled to the States to advise the police, city officials and retailers on how to set up the scheme which was based on the NRCI model.
The Safecity Initiative covers the Mall of America in Minneapolis which is the largest shopping area in the USA with over 500 shops, 14 cinemas, 50 restaurants and 14,000 employees. Although much larger than the NRCI, the initiative works in exactly the same way and has the same objectives.
PC Valentine of the NRCI was commended for his work in the USA by the Chief Constable of Northampton. The Safecity Initiative went on to receive an International Association of Chief Police award.
In December 2008 the NRCI was re-accredited with the Safer Business Award
In September 2009 the NRCI was the first initiative in the UK to achieve the Safe and Secure Accreditation Award from the Midlands Regional Crime Initiative (MRCI).
