POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the A5, Kilsby Road, Watford at approximately 1.00am this morning (Friday 22 June).
Two HGV lorries travelling in opposite directions on the A5 collided with each other resulting in a fire.
The driver of one of the lorries, 47-year-old man from Luton, sadly died at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the other lorry were not seriously injured but taken to Northampton General Hospital as a precaution.
Both the driver and passenger, who are both men, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. Both men remain in police custody for questioning.
Due to ongoing investigations, road damage and vehicle recovery the A5 on both directions is likely to remain closed throughout the day.
Road closures are currently between the A428 at Crick (Junction 18 M1) and A45 at Weedon (Junction 16 M1).
Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.
