Please note that this is archived material and may not necessarily reflect the current position of Northamptonshire Police

The Olympic Torch will be with us in Northamptonshire on Monday 2 July.

The Olympic Torch Relay is due to enter the county from Warwickshire during the morning and will pass through Northampton, Wellingborough, Isham, Kettering, Geddington, Corby and Dingley en route to Market Harborough in Leicestershire.

You can find further details about the route of the Torch on official London 2012 website

As the torch travels trough our communities, road closures will be in force parking restrictions will be in place along the route.

More information about road closures and parking restrictions are available from Northamptonshire County Council and the county’s borough and district councils. Related websites are listed below.

The relay has been very popular in other parts of the United Kingdom and our advice to those who want to go and see it is to plan ahead, check out parking arrangements in advance, park considerately and help keep the event safe and secure for everyone involved.

Please do not try to approach the torchbearers as they make their way around Northamptonshire, however good your intentions are.

The Torchbearer runs with a special security team from the Metropolitan Police Service.

This team creates a bubble around the Torchbearer and no-one should try and enter into that bubble while the convoy is on the move. This is for their own safety as much as the Torchbearer as the relay is a moving convoy of vehicles.

The British police service has great experience in delivering major public events and of working collaboratively with each other and our partners.

Structures have been put in place for national coordination and command at the regional and local level. This will ensure forces can manage the complexity of the Olympic Torch Relay as it crosses boundaries and borders.

During the time that the Olympic Torch Relay is with us we will be using our @northantspolice Twitter account to provide any messages using the hash tag #TorchRelayNorthants
