Young people in Daventry will have the opportunity to join in interactive workshop sessions offered by a group of dedicated youth workers by an organisation called Streetvibe. Streetvibe has been invited to visit the area by Daventry Safer Community Team on Saturday 26 May between 2pm and 6pm.
The group will offer their unique informal educational approach to young people aged between 11 and 14 years old at the free event being held at Daventry Recreational Park behind Daventry police station.
Streetvibe works with many different partner agencies and organisations to provide an engaging way of interacting with young people about issues they may encounter in their lives. Information will be available on many subjects including drugs; alcohol and health awareness and the sessions are based entirely on the young people’s voluntary engagement with the workers
The Streetvibe vehicles have been fully converted into mobile youth clubs and equipped to provide a range of different fun social activities, including:
• The Youth POD village is an outdoor event creating a high-energy festival style atmosphere for young people.
• The outreach (bus or van) offers a safe space for the youngsters to engage with youth workers doing issued based work or just somewhere to chill out in their own personal space.
Inspector Paul Valentine said: “Funding has been secured to enable us to hold this event and to offer this unique experience to young people to engage in positive educational activities.”
“Anti-social behaviour continues to drop and we hope that these events will help to show young people in the area that there are plenty of fun activities for them to get involved with and occupy their spare time. It’s also a great opportunity for us to engage with local young people, so local PCSO’s will be supporting the event to.”
”Youth workers will offer assistance to enable the young people to explore and examine the issues relating to anti-social behaviour, its causes and consequences.”
Kevin Fagan of the Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership, said: “This area has been identified as a place where youngsters would like more things to do, and the idea behind these sessions is to help engage them in a positive and constructive way.”
“Streetvibe have been delivering sessions for us over the past year and we have always had very positive feedback from those who have taken part in them.”
