NORTHAMPTON’S South West Sector Safer Community Team will be holding an event this Thursday 17 May.

One of the themes for the day is the promotion of responsible dog ownership. A force priority this year is to reduce violence offences and this not only includes what we traditionally think of as violence but also incidents involving dog bites.

Police Officers and RSPCA inspectors will be at the Mobile Police Station in Park Square, Kingsheath, between 9am and 4pm. RSPCA staff will be on hand the help and advise on all animal related issues but particularly responsible dog ownership.

In addition, and ahead of the Governments plans to work towards all dogs being micro chipped, the RSPCA inspectors will be offering subsidised micro chipping at £10 per dog, as apposed to in excess of £20 charged by most vets.

The times for the chipping will be will be from 10am - 3pm depending on demand.

Officers will be available to advise on other crime prevention matters, and to discuss local priorities and concerns. A limited number of auto crime prevention packs will also be available.

Anybody wishing to have their dog micro-chipped should turn up between the hours mentioned above- no appointment is necessary.
