Witnesses are essential to the criminal justice process; without them criminals would go unpunished for their crimes. Northamptonshire has a Witness Care Unit based at Campbell Square Police Station. The unit is staffed by both Police and the Crown Prosecution Service. They have responsibility for communicating with victims and witnesses about their case and their potential requirement to attend court.
The Witness Care Unit can offer support and advice to victims and witnesses involved in cases in which someone has been charged with an offence and is being prosecuted by the courts.
The Witness Care Unit recognises that it can be a daunting experience to stand in a witness box, so ensures that all victims and witnesses are provided with the appropriate level of care and support throughout the Criminal Justice System.
The Witness Care Officers can also make arrangements to make it easier for victims and witnesses to get to court.
To contact the Witness Care Unit, you can call them on 101 ext. 7500, or 03000 111 222 ext. 7500 (if you are calling from outside the county).
Alternatively you can email semwitnesscare@northants.pnn.police.uk
