Weedon: Club has Operating License withdrawn
Back Back   Print Print page

Weedon Conservative and Unionist Club in New Street, Weedon, had its Operating License withdrawn at a hearing on Thursday 4 March, following a history of complaints concerning noise nuisance and disturbance.

Problems connected to the club over a two-year period led to a hearing on April 2009 to determine an application for Variation of the Club Premises Certificate, asking for an increase to the operating hours of the club and the addition of further licensable activities

Police made an objection to the application.

However, since the hearing, there have been further problems, and during events with live bands, members of the club have shown continued disregard to operating within the terms and conditions of their license.

As a consequence local residents made complaints to the police, and after several attempts to resolve these issues, a further licensing hearing took place yesterday morning at Daventry Licensing Authority.

A decision was made by the Licensing Sub Committee that, as a result of the disregard of conditions set within the Club’s Premises Certificate, they had little option but to withdraw the Certificate. The club now has 21 days to appeal this decision.

PC Tam Dunn, Licensing Officer for Northamptonshire West area of Northamptonshire Police, said:

“This is a good and appropriate result.

“It illustrates the likely consequences of a club failing to operate in a responsible manner.”
