Members of the St James Safer Community Team in Northampton have been busy tackling one of the priorities set for them by local people. Residents expressed their concerns about the supply and use of controlled drugs in the area and so it was chosen as one of the team’s three priorities. As such members of the Safer Community Team have been focusing their time on tackling the issue. This has seen eight cannabis warnings issued since 1 December and two Misuse of Drugs warrants executed by the SCT, where small amounts of cannabis were recovered. In addition a 19 year-old man was arrested and cautioned for possession of cannabis and a 33 year old man was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis. Sergeant Lara Alexander-Lloyd, from the St James Safer Community Team, said: “Local people told us that the use and supply of illegal drugs were a concern for them and so this was adopted by the team as a priority in December. “Since then we have been working hard to tackle the issue, including gathering evidence to be able to execute Misuse of Drugs warrants and arrest people. “I would urge people to contact us or Crimestoppers if they are aware of anyone involved in the supply and use of illegal drugs. Anyone who has any information can contact us on 03000 111 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” To find out more about the work of the St James Safer Community Team log on to www.northants.police.uk and click onto the SCT link.
