Today’s major crackdown on the handling of stolen goods has already produced excellent results. Eight policing teams comprising more than eighty officers from the Protective Services Command executed 20 search warrants across Northamptonshire. As a result 12 people are now being held in police custody for a range of offences including theft, the handling of stolen goods and supplying Class A drugs. This is just the first phase of Operation Guardian, the force-wide initiative, lead by intelligence, to tackle robbery, burglary and vehicle crime.
Assistant Chief Constable Martin Jelley said today: “This is a very clear message that we will be making life very uncomfortable for those who want to commit this kind of crime. If you persist in doing so, we will be knocking at your door.” “Today’s activity focused on the handling of stolen goods. However, there will be daily activity around Operation Guardian, which will run throughout 2010 in order to tackle serious acquisitive crime. “We want to make Northamptonshire a hostile county for this type of crime.” |
